Like Gotye and Macklemore before him, 28-year-old Mike Rosenberg aka Passenger found success across the globe with ‘Let Her Go’ long before the UK hopped on the bandwagon. What’s more, the track’s success (so far topping the charts in 11 countries) is the result of slogging it out for ten years - initially as a five-piece band and eventually as a solo artist. The track itself is a slice of gentle folk-pop whose joy lies in its simplicity. “Only need the light when it’s burning low/ Only miss the sun when it starts to snow,” he sings in his distinctively pitched vocal over an acoustic orchestra consisting of guitars, violins, bass and piano.
